FAQ

FAQ
  • WHAT ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
Eyelash extensions are a glamorous new way to add definition to our eyes by lengthening and volumizing their overall appearance. Lashes have become the new beauty trend for the busy life, as they offer convenience, practicality and stay uniform endlessly (as long as you maintain those fills) opposed to the daily application of mascara and/or eyeliner. Unlike the traditional false strip lashes, lash extensions can be worn daily without nightly removal, as they're applied to the natural lashes individually with medical grade adhesive.
  • CAN I USE A LASH GROWTH SERUM WITH MY LASH EXTENSIONS?
When wearing eyelash extensions, you have to exercise additional caution with the products you put on your face, on and around your eyes. Serums that are approved for lash extensions are the following: Eye Envy Lash Affair Growth Serum LashFood Phyto-Medic Eyelash Enhancer Grande Cosmetics Lash MD
  • AM I STILL ABLE TO GET EYELASH EXTENSIONS IF I'M ALLERGIC/ SENSITIVE TO GEL PADS?
Absolutely! If you've had a reaction to the gel patches used by your lash artist before, just be sure to disclose all possible allergens with your lash specialist in advance, as information like this should be put on your client intake form. In place of a gel pad, at LumeeLashes we used Nexcare Sensitive tape to ensure you don't react and can still give you the beautiful lashes you desire.
  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CLASSIC AND RUSSIAN VOLUME?
Classic Lash Extensions are applied in the ratio of 1 extension per 1 natural lash. They are meant to enhance one's natural lash length and give a mascara look without the hassle of application. The most popular thickness used is 0.15mm, which is the most comparable to the average person's natural lash. At LumeeLashes we never go over this thickness of lash extension. Volume lash extensions are handmade fans comprised of 2 to 8+ extensions per 1 natural lash, which is determined according to your natural lash health, lash diameter and desired look. Perfect for those who are looking for more density and an overall fuller look. For example, if you have fine sparse natural lashes and are looking for coverage and density, we would recommend doing a volume set applying lighter weight extensions to create that look for you. We would not recommend classic extensions as it would not satisfy this client because Classic extensions only accentuates the length of your natural lashes.
  • HOW LONG DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS REALLY LAST?
A lifetime! With monthly fills of course. On average, fills are recommended every 3 weeks to ensure they have a seamless beautiful finish. If you consistently like to wear extensions, fills are recommended to upkeep between 2-4 weeks after the initial application, as our natural lashes shed at the last stage of their growth cycle. Shedding occurs every 60-90 days; making that 2-5 lashes per eye daily. With every single eyelash on each eye growing and shedding at their own rates. Even though some lash babes may be able to go the whole 4 weeks, and others only 2, we are all different individuals with different natural lash cycles. To ensure you are getting the most out of your lash extensions, remember to protect your investment by cleansing 1-2x daily and coming for a fill for the recommended timing for optimal results.
  • CAN EYELASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASHES?
When applied properly by a certified highly trained lash specialist, lash extensions will not harm your natural lashes. Please be sure not to pick, rub or pull your eyelash extensions, as this may cause your natural lashes to prematurely shed, which may lead to you inflicting permanent damage to your lash line.
  • HOW DO I CARE FOR MY EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
Caring for your eyelash extensions is just as important as the maintenance. At LumeeLashes, when you come for your very first full set with us, we provide you with a Lash Cleanser Bundle to take home. We recommend you wash your lashes 2x daily - morning and night; please ensure to thoroughly rinse. In order to prolong the duration of your lash extensions and to save the natural lashes is to NEVER brush them while they are wet. Water makes the extensions heavier and volume fans to close, and with the extra weight from the water, brushing might remove natural lashes that were not supposed to shed yet. Please wait until your natural lashes and extensions are completely dry - you can pat them dry with paper towel gently to remove excess water, and then brush them out. It will make your eyelash extensions last longer and your eyelashes will look fluffy afterwards. The more you care for them, the longer they'll last.
  • WHAT HAPPENS DURING APPLICATION?
After analyzing your natural lashes and eye/ face shape to determine the desired shape, curl, thickness, and length to achieve your sought after look, we apply gel patches. Gel patches are a beauty treatment on their own to replenish the moisture underneath your eyes, reduce puffiness and dark circles. However, that's just all a bonus on it's own, the main reason we use gel patches is to keep your lower lashes down during the application. Although we love to chat and get to know you more, it's important to keep talking to a minimum to because facial movements will affect the time it takes to apply the lash extensions and also moves the gel patches into your eyes - which we DO NOT WANT. Don't worry though it won't be insanely quiet - we're avid lovers of podcasts and basically every genre of music there is, so there definitely won't be any awkward silence. Typically most of our lash babes enjoy a lash nap anyhow, as it's super relaxing and painless, which makes the podcasts TV for our ears.
  • CAN I USE MASCARA/ EYELINER WITH MY EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
Mascara is unnecessary when wearing lash extensions, as they are meant to defeat the purpose of using mascara. In saying this, mascara is not allowed to be applied to your sets you receive from LumeeLashes, otherwise we will have to do a removal and full set if you would like to keep your lash extensions on. If you find a need to apply mascara while having your extensions on, you should either be coming in for your fill sooner or upgrade the type of set you get to a signature russian volume or mega volume set, as these sets are a lot denser/ fuller. If you like to wear eyeliner, please use a powder or pencil, or an oil-free liquid liner. We do not recommend gel liners as it is more difficult to remove and highly not recommended for wear with lash extensions. When looking to purchase an eyeliner, check the ingredients list for any glycols or carbonates. If it has the following ingredients, it has potential to break down the adhesive.
  • HOW DO I REMOVE EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
If you no longer want lash extensions on, we highly recommend you come in for a lash removal. This ensures your natural lashes remain healthy, as when you let them just grow out and fall off on their own, it creates the risk of your natural lashes prematurely shedding from the extension becoming top heavy. Meaning the weight distribution of the extension is weighing down your natural lash as it continues to grow. We also DO NOT recommend using coconut oil to remove your own extensions, as this leads to creating too much friction on the lash line, that results in typically pulling out your natural lashes with the extensions.
  • I PICK MY EYELASHES BUT REALLY WANT LASH EXTENSIONS; IS THAT POSSIBLE TO HAVE?
We do not think those who pick, pull or rub their lashes habitually are candidates for eyelash extensions. They will not last, and when you come back for a fill there may not be any natural lashes to bond extensions to. On top of that, we are not held liable for the damage caused to your natural lashes from any forms of trichotillomania or pure boredom picking.
  • MY EXTENSIONS HURT IN THE PAST - IS THAT NORMAL?
No, they should never hurt. If they hurt, something is wrong! When applied properly by an experienced educated stylist, you shouldn't feel them at all. It's not a matter of tolerance levels, they are simple pain free, zero, ziltch, nadda. You might feel some anxiety if you are worried about someone using tweezers so close to your eyes, but pain is not a part of this treatment.
  • MY NATURAL LASHES FELL OUT WITH MY EXTENSIONS BEFORE SO I STOPPED GETTING THEM DONE..
I hate to break it to you, but your natural lashes already fall out on their own even without lash extensions attached to them. Every individual sheds an average of 2-5 natural lashes per day, per eye. Lashes naturally shed, just like the hair on our head. The only reason you may think it's due to the lash extensions is because it is much more noticeable when you shed a natural lash with an extension attached to it, compared to just your natural lash because it is a lot finer and not as rich in colour. Hence why fills are required to maintain the beautiful seamless look of lash extensions, as the hairs on our body are constantly going through their own growth cycles.
  • I'M NERVOUSE MY NATURAL LASHES ARE GOING TO BE SHORT AND THIN WHEN I DECIDE TO GO WITHOUT EXTENSIONS..
Eyelash extensions do not affect the growth cycle of your natural lashes, whether it be during your use of lash extensions or after they've been removed - your natural lash cycle will always remain constant. You may think that your lashes appear to be shorter and thinner after your extensions are gone, it's really just your mind playing games with you after you've gotten used to waking up to a gorgeously full lash line, with longer curlier lashes every morning. All in all, properly applied lash extensions have zero affect on the thickness or length of your natural lashes.
  • WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG FOR LASH APPOINTMENTS?
A full set typically takes between 2-3 hours because we are customizing the extensions to your natural lashes to ensure they look gorgeous per your request while maintaining the health of your natural lashes. Each extension applied HAS TO be attached to an individually isolated natural lash; with up to 90-150 eyelashes per eye, it is a more tedious luxurious treatment. However, our fills take less time, so when you come back for a touch up it will not take nearly as long.
